FAQ
Questions about ⌘L.
What it does, who can use it, and what it needs on your site.
What is ⌘L?
⌘L opens Letter Edit, Letter's in-browser editor for your own website. Press it on any page of your site, sign in, and say what to change. A Build starts from that page and comes back as a pull request with a live preview.
Who can use it?
People on your team's Letter account. Pressing ⌘L asks you to sign in, so someone visiting your site can't start a Build.
Does anything change on my live site straight away?
No. Every change is a pull request on your repository. It reaches your site only when someone on your team merges it, and your repo's checks run on it first like any other pull request.
What do I need to install?
Only the Letter Visitors script in your site's <head>. Letter Edit ships inside it. The site also needs to be verified in Letter, with Visitors' identification module turned on, and its repository connected so Builds can open pull requests.
Is there a way in without the keyboard shortcut?
Yes. A link to any page of your site that ends in #letter opens Letter Edit on that page. It's an easy way to send a teammate straight to the thing you want changed.
Can I change the text directly?
Yes. For copy changes, edit the words where you see them on the page. A screenshot of the view goes into the pull request with the change.
Does it work on previews?
Yes. Press ⌘L on a Letter preview of a change and keep going. Follow-up asks build on the same pull request.
What kinds of changes can I ask for?
Anything you'd ask a developer to do on that page: rewrite a headline, add a section, fix a broken button, restyle a block, add an FAQ. Bigger asks, like a new page, run as a Build too.
My site is on a CMS. Will it work?
Letter Edit changes your site through pull requests on its repository. Content that lives only in a CMS, not in the repo, can't be changed that way.
Does the script slow my site down?
The Visitors script loads asynchronously, so it doesn't block your page from rendering.
How is it priced?
Letter Edit runs on Visitors' identification module, a paid module, and Builds are metered like the rest of Letter. See letter.dev/pricing for current plans.
